School-Based Councils and Committees

One of LAUSD’s core beliefs is that families are our partners and that parents, as the first and lifelong teachers of their children, have valuable advice and contributions regarding the education of their children. LAUSD has long relied on parent and community leaders and advisors to inform District initiatives and decision making at school sites and throughout the District. If you are interested in joining any one of our councils, please come to the office.

School Site Council (SSC)

The SSC is the decision-making council for all programs funded through the Consolidated Application (ConAp). The SSC is responsible for the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), in consultation with the English Learner Advisory Committee, other relevant stakeholders and, where applicable, the School Advisory Committee. The SSC is also responsible for meeting all school level federal parental involvement mandates including the development of the Title I parent involvement policy and budget (E046) and the Title I parent-school compact.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

The ELAC provides written recommendations to the SSC regarding programs and services for English Learner (EL) students and the use of EIA-LEP funding to support their academic needs. The ELAC reviews student and parent involvement data prior to submitting its written recommendations to the SSC. The ELAC also advises on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement and the budget related to programs/services for ELs and assists in the review of the school’s language census. The committee meets at least six times per school year.

Local School Leadership (LSLC)

The Local School Leadership Council is the school’s governance body that is responsible for the management of the school activities schedule, equipment needs and guidelines, copiers, textbooks, and discipline issues. The council comprises the principal, teacher representatives, a classified staff representative, and parent representatives.  All interested parents are welcome to attend LSLC meetings, which are held eight times a year.

Inclusion Steering Committee

The Inclusion Steering Committee provides guidance regarding the implementation of our full inclusion program.  The committee comprises the principal, assistant principal, teacher representatives, and parent representatives.  All interested parents are welcome to attend these monthly meetings.
